About KoreaPosts
KoreaPosts is an English-language guide to Korea for people who did not grow up here. Visas and residence cards, bank accounts and phone plans, rental deposits, hospitals and pharmacies, trains and transport cards, what is on the menu and why a holiday shuts the whole country down for four days — the things that are obvious to everyone around you and documented almost nowhere in English.
Who this is for
Newcomers on their first month here, long-term residents dealing with an unfamiliar procedure, exchange students, teachers, remote workers and travellers planning a trip. Nothing assumes you read Korean. Where a Korean term matters — because it is what the form says or what you will hear at the counter — it is given in Korean with a translation.
How articles are researched
- Official sources first. Rules come from the organisation that sets them: Korea Immigration Service and HiKorea for visas, the National Health Insurance Service for healthcare, the Korea Tourism Organization and the transport authorities for travel, ministry and city-government pages for everything else.
- Every article lists its sources. The links used to write a piece are published at the bottom of it, so you can check any claim at the source instead of taking our word for it.
- Dated and revisited. Fees, thresholds and application procedures in Korea change often. Each article shows when it was published and when it was last updated, and articles are revised when the underlying rule changes.
- Specific over vague. Actual amounts, actual document names, actual office names — a guide that says “bring the required documents” has not helped anyone.

KoreaPosts is funded entirely by Google AdSense advertising. There are no affiliate links, no sponsored posts, no paid placements and no commission on anything mentioned here. Advertisements are served by Google and are labelled as ads; they have no influence on what is written or on which topics are covered. Nobody pays to be included or excluded.
